Two Connecticut hospitals in the Northwell Health system received strong marks in the 2026 CMS Star Quality Rating System, with Sharon Hospital earning the highest possible five-star designation and Danbury Hospital receiving four stars.

Sharon Hospital, perennially ranked among Connecticut's best hospitals, has now achieved five-star status in seven of the last eight years. The facility scored well across multiple CMS measures, including patient safety, readmissions, patient experience, timely and effective care and mortality. The hospital also carries an established reputation for maternity care.

Danbury Hospital earned a four-star rating and was among six Northwell hospitals that improved their CMS standing compared to a year ago.

CMS Star Quality Ratings are designed to help consumers evaluate health care facilities using data covering patient outcomes, safety, readmissions, patient experience and timely and effective care. Only 12 percent of the 3,203 hospitals that reported data nationally achieved five-star status. Ratings drew on Care Compare data collected between 2021 and 2025.

"Our patients are the priority and our team members deliver consistent, quality and compassionate care each day," said John D'Angelo, MD, Northwell's president and CEO. "I'm proud to say that Northwell Health now has seven five-star hospitals. We're never satisfied, but this is a great achievement."

Overall, 12 Northwell hospitals across the Northeast received four stars or better, with seven earning five stars.
