Trinity Health Of New England has engaged Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to assess its oncology program with the intent of joining the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Cancer Care Collaborative by January 2027, expanding access to subspecialty cancer expertise across the Hartford-based health system's Connecticut network.
The assessment will be accompanied by immediate clinical support services from Dana-Farber as the relationship is developed. Initial collaboration will focus on medical oncology and include clinical advisory support, access to Dana-Farber subspecialty expertise, tumor board participation, case review office hours, educational resources, professional development opportunities including lectures and symposia, program development initiatives, and best practice sharing.
"We are building an oncology program that is locally led, regionally integrated and designed for long-term growth and clinical excellence for years to come," said Steven Hanks, MD, MMM, FACP, FFSMB, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trinity Health Of New England. "We foresee a strong future as a Collaborative Member of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute once their assessment and diligence process is completed."
The collaboration is expected to expand innovation and professional development opportunities across Trinity Health Of New England's oncology program. The health system comprises Saint Francis Hospital and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital in Hartford, Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, and Trinity Health Of New England Medical Group, a primary and multi-specialty physician group with locations across Connecticut.
"We remain committed to retaining and recruiting top clinical talent, strengthening our workforce and investing in the people, programs and infrastructure required to build a premier oncology service line," said Robert Roose, MD, MPH, President of Saint Francis Hospital, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, Johnson Memorial Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital. "Care will continue to be delivered locally by the trusted physicians and care teams who serve our communities every day. Our focus remains on enhancing patient access, advancing clinical excellence and providing an exceptional experience across the continuum of cancer care."
