Northwell Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in the Northeast, announced it will deploy Abridge’s ambient AI platform across its 28 hospitals to enhance clinical documentation and reduce provider burnout. Serving more than 3 million patients annually in New York and Connecticut—including communities in western Connecticut—Northwell’s expansion of digital tools signals a major shift in how clinicians interact with health data.
Abridge’s technology captures medical conversations in real-time, transforming them into structured, billable clinical notes. Northwell leaders say this will support care teams across hospitals, outpatient centers, and emergency departments while easing administrative strain.
“As we transform care delivery at scale, we are focused on how ambient AI can reimagine the experience for both patients and clinicians,” said Kristin Myers, MPH, executive vice president and chief digital officer at Northwell Health. “By leveraging Abridge’s enterprise-grade technology and expertise, we’re ensuring our transformation remains centered on what matters most—improving patient care and supporting the clinicians who deliver it.”
“Physician wellness and resiliency is one of the most essential issues facing healthcare today and promoting it requires redesigning how we work,” said Jill Kalman, MD, executive vice president, chief medical officer and deputy physician-in-chief at Northwell Health. “The patient and clinician interaction is precious and time is an invaluable resource. By reducing documentation burden, Abridge will help our clinicians return to what they do best: caring for our patients.”
“Northwell is shaping the future of healthcare, and it’s a privilege to help power that future from the ground up, starting at the point of conversation,” said Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and co-founder of Abridge and a practicing cardiologist.
