Connecticut ranks among the least stressed states in the nation when it comes to health insurance burden, according to a new study by NiceRx, a telehealth provider, which assigned the state a health insurance stress score of 3.42 out of 10, the 14th-lowest in the United States.

The findings arrive as 97,000 Connecticut residents are set to have their medical debt wiped, offering additional financial relief to households managing healthcare costs. The state's uninsured rate of 5.8% ranks 12th-lowest nationally, compared to a national average of 7.6%. The average annual employee contribution for family health insurance coverage in Connecticut is $6,747, slightly below the national average of $6,927. However, that figure has risen 40.3% over the past decade, outpacing the national increase of 35.8%.

The NiceRx study analyzed insurance coverage levels, long-term premium trends, and online search behavior across all 50 states to produce a composite stress score. Nationally, more than 1.2 million Americans searched for health insurance coverage in the past month alone, reflecting widespread concern about affordability and access. Florida ranked as the most stressed state with a score of 8.73 out of 10, Texas carried the highest uninsured rate at 16.7%, and Hawaii saw the largest premium increase over the past decade at 50.2%.

"Health insurance plays a critical role in shaping both financial security and access to care across the United States. As premiums rise and coverage gaps persist in some states, many people are left to make complex decisions about their healthcare," said Rob Stransky, President at NiceRx. "For individuals managing long-term conditions such as obesity, access to treatment can be challenging without adequate insurance. Medications such as GLP-1s are increasingly used to support weight loss and improve long-term health outcomes, but cost remains a key barrier."

"While insurance can help reduce these costs, alternative pathways are becoming more common. Clinically guided services, including access to treatments such as compounded tirzepatide or the ability to buy semaglutide online, may help some patients access treatment more affordably when used alongside appropriate medical support," Stransky added.

Connecticut's relatively low stress score and below-average uninsured rate position it favorably within the national landscape, though a decade-long premium increase of 40.3% signals that affordability pressures are not absent from the state, even where coverage rates remain strong.
