Connecticut’s congressional delegation is demanding immediate federal action to resolve funding disruptions at community health centers following recent White House Executive Orders. U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, along with U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and U.S. Representatives John Larson, Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes, and Jahana Hayes, sent a letter urging Acting HHS Secretary Dr. Dorothy Fink to intervene amid the ongoing chaos affecting these vital facilities.
More than 440,000 Connecticut residents rely on these centers for essential services such as cancer detection and early childhood care. However, many centers are operating with only 57 days of cash on hand and have encountered lockouts from the Payment Management System, significant delays in receiving funds, and convoluted review processes—even after a court order blocked the funding freeze. These disruptions have sparked widespread panic among staff and patients, leading to canceled appointments and concerns over meeting payroll obligations.
Lawmakers warned that continued instability could force service cuts, closures, and layoffs, potentially driving more patients to costly emergency care. They called on HHS to restore stable funding and clear communication channels to protect vulnerable populations and ensure the continuity of critical healthcare services across the state.
