Connecticut ranked 15th nationally in WalletHub's 2026 Best & Worst States for Healthcare report, driven by a top-10 outcomes score offset by the nation's fifth-highest health insurance premiums.

WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across 44 metrics grouped into three equally weighted categories: cost, access, and outcomes, using data collected as of June 29, 2026, from sources including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the best healthcare at the most reasonable cost.

Connecticut earned a total score of 59.75, placing it 15th overall, with an outcomes rank of 6th, an access rank of 14th, and a cost rank of 45th out of 51 states and the District of Columbia.

Connecticut ranked 47th in average monthly health insurance premium, among the five highest in the nation, and 47th in hospital beds per capita, among the five lowest.

Chip Lupo, WalletHub Analyst, said, "Healthcare has two crucial components, cost and quality. The best healthcare in the nation isn't helpful if it bankrupts the people who try to get it, and cheap healthcare isn't worth paying for if it provides subpar or ineffective treatment. Therefore, the best states for healthcare are those that make high-quality care affordable, on top of providing many options for doctors and making insurance easily accessible."

New Hampshire ranked first overall with a score of 68.63, followed by Minnesota and Iowa, while Alaska ranked last. Connecticut was the only New England state other than Vermont to rank outside the top ten nationally.  The full study is available here.
