The Cigna Group Foundation has opened applications for a new round of grants aimed at improving mental health and housing stability for military veterans, including Connecticut. The funding is part of a $9 million, three-year commitment launched in 2024 to address social determinants of health that impact veteran well-being. For 2025, $3 million in grants will be awarded to nonprofits working to expand permanent housing, provide rental assistance, and offer wraparound support services for veterans.
Applications are open now and will close at 5 p.m. ET on August 7, 2025. Priority will be given to organizations operating in states with high social determinant risks and large Cigna customer bases.
"Many veterans struggle with trauma during and after their time of service, which has a direct impact on their daily living," said Melissa Skottegaard, board chair, The Cigna Group Foundation. "We believe that a stable home environment is crucial to improving the mental health of those who have served our nation and look forward to partnering with organizations committed to this vital work."
In the initiative’s first year, 23 organizations received funding. Projects included rapid rehousing in Texas, foreclosure prevention in Tennessee, and expanded case management in Pennsylvania. In addition to grants, The Cigna Group supports veterans through volunteer mentoring and career transition programs in partnership with American Corporate Partners.
The initiative is part of Cigna’s broader $27 million philanthropic strategy focused on youth and veteran mental health and reducing barriers to health equity nationwide. Visit https://www.thecignagroup.com/our-impact/esg/healthy-society/community/foundation/ to learn more.
